My Story

I'm Mazvita Velah, known as Ngoda. I'm a Zimbabwean cybersecurity graduate student, currently finishing my MS in Cybersecurity at the Katz School of Science and Health, Yeshiva University. My path here started with a BCom Honours in Information Systems, where I first got curious about how technology, risk, and governance intersect. Since then, I've earned certifications like ISC2 CC, AZ-900, and FAIR Institute certifications, and I've worked hands on in GRC and cybersecurity roles along the way.

I started Girl, Governed because I noticed a gap: GRC and AI governance can feel intimidating, full of jargon that keeps people out instead of bringing them in. I wanted a space where I could break these topics down simply, the way I wish someone had done for me when I was starting out, and where other women in tech could see themselves reflected in this field.

This blog is part learning journal, part career story, and part invitation. Girls in tech are not a trend. We're here to stay, and I'm writing this to prove it.

As the founder and voice behind Girl, Governed, I lead a growing platform dedicated to making GRC and AI governance accessible to more women in tech. Beyond the blog, my leadership shows up in the classroom and beyond it: taking initiative in group projects during my MS in Cybersecurity, guiding peers through certification prep for ISC2 CC, AZ-900, and FAIR Institute certifications, and bringing a global, Zimbabwean perspective to conversations that are often missing one. For me, leadership isn't about a title. It's about showing up, speaking clearly, and making space for the next woman coming up behind me.
